IND vs AUS: “He Always Works Out How To Stay In A Game And How To Bowl To A Player” – Matthew Hayden Heaps Praise On Ravichandran Ashwin
The veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin picked up six wickets in Australia’s first innings in the fourth and final Test match between India and Australia in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy (BGT). Former Australian cricketer Matthew Hayden praised Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling, saying the spinner always finds a way to stay in the game.
The 36-year-old picked up his 32nd five-wicket haul in red-ball cricket. Ashwin bowled well and finished with figures of 47.2-15-91-6 in tough conditions where the bowlers didn’t get help from the surface. Ashwin bowled with less than a 2 economy rate on a flat pitch and dismissed Travis Head, Cameron Green, Alex Carey, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Todd Murphy.

This Is Something He Can Remember – Matthew Hayden
Matthew Hayden compared Ashwin’s spell to Rohit Sharma’s century in the first Test of the four-match series, which was played in Nagpur. Hayden said that Ashwin’s tenacity and ability to stay in the game made him a great international cricketer.
“He always works out how to stay in a game and how to bowl to a player and that’s what it takes. When you look at the series, there have been so many occasions where, if you look at the figures of spin bowlers, they didn’t have a good day similar to a batter. If you are scoring a hundred like Rohit Sharma did in the first Test on a really tricky wicket, they are the ones you remember in your career,” Hayden was quoted as saying to Star Sports.

“Ravi Ashwin will also think that this is something he can remember. He can say ‘You know what, in these challenging conditions, I still managed to get a fifer’. It’s also about his tenacity, just hang in there, he is a great international cricketer,” he added.
The visitors started day 2 with a score of 255 runs for the loss of four wickets. The opening batter Usman Khawaja scored 180 runs, and all-rounder Cameron Green smashed his maiden Test century. The Australians were bowled out for 480 runs in their first innings. The hosts ended with 36/0 at the stumps on Day 2.
