Delhi Capitals Women won the toss and invited Gujarat Giants to bat first in the WPL match. They made one change to the playing XI as Poonam Yadav came in for Tara Norris. GUJ-W lost a wicket in the first over itself as Sophia Dunkley was dismissed by Marizanne Kapp for 4. In the next few overs, the Gujarat Giants batters were unable to play an attacking brand of cricket and at the end of the powerplay, they were at 32/1.

Harleen Deol, who has been the star performer for Gujarat Giants in the WPL, tried to provide some stability to the side after an early wicket as she scored 31 runs off 33 balls, with 4 fours, before being cleaned up by Jess Jonassen in the 10th over.

After losing the wicket of Harleen, it was on the overseas stars Laura Wolvaardt and Ashleigh Gardner to take GUJ-W to a competitive total and they didn’t disappoint. Together they stitched together 81 runs off 53 balls.

Ashleigh Gardner smashed a brilliant 51* runs off 33 balls, including 9 fours, while Laura Wolvaardt amassed 57 runs off 45 balls, with 6 fours and 1 six. In the end, GUJ-W posted 147/4 on the board.

Chasing the target, dangerous Shafali Verma got dismissed in the second over itself. Skipper Meg Lanning was also cleaned up by Gujarat Giants captain Sneh Rana in the 6th over. In the same over, Alice Capsey got run out after a massive mix-up with Jemimah Rodrigues and at the end of the powerplay they were at 51/3.

DC-W’s Marizanne Kapp fought well and scored 36 runs, but the wickets kept falling at the other end and DC-W were reduced to 100/8.

From the lower order, Arundhati Reddy batted very well and scored 25 runs off 17 balls, with 4 fours, and it looked like she will take her side past the finish line. However, it didn’t happen as Kim Garth cleaned Arundhati up in the 18th over. DC-W lost the last wicket on the 4th ball of the 19th over and got bundled out for 136.

Delhi Capitals Women lost the match by 11 runs against the Gujarat Giants and this was their second defeat in the season, with the first one coming against Mumbai Indians Women.
